S P R I N G M A R C H 2 0 1 4 BRIGHT SPOTS & NEWS FLASHES THANKS PV! YOU BROUGHT THE AWESOME Awesome numbers, that is! For the third year in a row, Palos Verdes enrolled more walkers in the Skechers Pier to Pier Walk than any other participating school district! This year over 3,300 walkers from Palos Verdes registered and their efforts resulted in a check for $136,000 that will go directly to our schools. Peninsula Education Foundation $500 Manhattan Beach Education Foundation $1,500 Hermosa Beach Education Foundation $1,000 La Cañada Flintridge Education Foundation $2,500 San Marino Education Foundation $2,000 GET YOUR INVITATION TO AUTUMN HARVEST PEF started participating in the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk 5 years ago. The first check we received was for $7,500. Each year we aim to set our participation goal higher and each year our community turns out and exceeds our expectations. We couldn't raise these funds for our schools without you! We are so grateful for your support! $ 1 3 6 , 0 0 0 for pvpusd schools! Each November PEF hosts Autumn Harvest, a food and wine event, right here in Palos Verdes. Autumn Harvest is a great way to get to know local restaurants and sample menu items. It's also PEF's way of saying thank you to Ma- jor Donors for their support. At Autumn Harvest, there's something for everyone and guests never leave hungry! This year sixteen restaurants particpated, including: The Depot Szechwan Gourmet Sparrow Riviera Mexican Grill Red Car Brewery Misto Caffe and Bakery Mama Terano Gaetano's Alfredo Garcias Veggie Grill Marmalade Cafe El Pollo Inka/Inka Wasi Ortega 120 Babycakes Baking Company Cafe Pacific at Trump Palos Verdes Golf Club PEF also recognizes Chuck Miller teacher grant winners at Autumn Harvest. PEF awards these grants to teachers for innovative classroom ideas and projects that support learning . Teachers at each PVP school campus are eligible to apply. This year more than 100 teachers submitted ap- plications and thirty-three received grants. In total, more than $25,000 in grants were awarded thanks to the generosity of Chuck Miller, AXA Advisors and PEF supporters. If you'd like to attend Autumn Harvest, donate $1,500 or more annually and watch for your invitation via email. Autumn Harvest is in November, but it will be here before you know it!
