Peninsula Education Foundation proudly recognizes the 2025 scholarship recipients: Sharon Lee (Peninsula High) and Nathan Friedman (Palos Verdes High), two students who have used their passions in music and technology to shape their futures and inspire their communities. P A S S I O N A N D P U R P O S E : C E L E B R A T I N G S T U D E N T A C H I E V E M E N T Recognizing 2025 PEF Scholarship Honorees In addition to her musical achievements, Sharon is a four-year member of Peninsula High's CyberPatriots team. Through this experience, she discovered how technology can be used to solve real- world problems and found a passion for data-driven thinking. This fall, Sharon will attend Brown University, where she plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in Data Science and Statistics. Sharon Lee's journey began at Rancho Vista Elementary School , where, as a fourth grader, she first encountered the viola . That early introduction sparked a love of music that has grown over the years and led her to become the principal violist of Peninsula High's Symphonic Orchestra . Sharon Lee Peninsula HIgh Nathan Friedman Palos Verdes High Nathan Friedman's musical journey began at Silver Spur Elementary, where he first picked up the saxophone. At PVIS, he met the inspiring Ms. O'Laughlin, who introduced him to drums and music theory. Joining the PVIS after-school jazz program led to a deeper involvement in the PV High music community, where he has been lead percussionist in all six drama productions, from Peter and the Starcatcher to Seussical. These experiences helped him grow not only as a musician but also as a confident and collaborative performer. Spotlight on Sharon Lee Meet Nathan Friedman Ready for the next chapter, Nathan will be attending Chapman University in the fall . He will be pursuing a B.A. in Music Studies and joining the university 's prestigious Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music.
