Strong public schools anchor our community. The Palos Verdes Peninsula holds a tradition of educational excellence and valuing its schools. Because of our engaged parents and community members, we can continue to provide enhanced opportunities and programs that directly impact our children's future success. Today, all tax revenues go to Sacramento where they are distributed statewide according to a needs-based formula. This funding formula leaves PVPUSD with a multi-million dollar funding gap and fewer dollars per pupil than what is needed to provide the education we want for our children. The public schools on the Palos Verdes Peninsula are some of the finest in both the state and the country. However, even with high property taxes, our per pupil funding isn't comparable to most other high-achiev- ing districts. California public school funding has been lacking for years. At one point, California was once ranked 5th in the nation for per pupil funding, but the passage of Proposition 13 in 1978 significantly altered the state's education funding model. Your support is vital in ensuring our children receive the enriched education they deserve. OUR CHALLENGE
