STEM occupations are in high demand and continue to be among the fastest-growing within the 21st-century workforce. PEF proudly funds STEM programs for 6th -12th graders in the PVPUSD, exposing students to drones, robotics, programming, computer design and more. As technology becomes increasingly integrated into every aspect of life, understanding its principles and applications is essential. STEM education equips stu- dents with technological literacy, allowing them to adapt to and harness new innovations effectively for their future careers and to positively impact our global community. At our intermediate schools, students can take STEM specialization classes, including Design & Modeling, Automation & Robotics and Intro to Digital Electronics. One popular class is Flight and Space, where the rich history of aerospace comes alive through hands-on activities, research and experi- ments. Students explore the science behind aeronautics and use their knowledge to design and fabricate wings. Custom-built simulation software allows students to experience space flight. STEM: SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, Both Palos Verdes Peninsula High and Palos Verdes High schools have award-winning STEM programs. SMERT (Science, Math, Engineering, Robotics and Technology) at PVPHS has more than 13 competition teams including Cyber Patriots, Robotics, Solar Engineering and more. PVPHS' s Phantom Catz Team 2637 joined forces with the national orga- nization Go Baby Go to bring joy and mobility to children with cerebral palsy (1 in 345 children are diagnosed with cerebral palsy).
