G Y, E N G I N E E R I N G A N D M AT H Both Palos Verdes Peninsula High and Palos Verdes High schools have award-winning STEM programs. SMERT (Science, Math, Engineering, Robotics and Technology) at PVPHS has more than 13 competition teams includ- ing Cyber Patriots, Stellar Xplor, Solar Boat and more. At this year's FIRSTĀ® Robotics Competition, Peninsula High's Phantom Catz won the Chairman's Award, recognizing the team that reflects sustained excellence and impact within its own community and beyond. At Palos Verdes High School, PVIT (Palos Verdes Institute of Technology) offers hands-on train- ing in electronics, robotics, fabrication and pro- gramming. eir competition teams continue to place in regional, state, national and international events. is year, PVIT's ROV (Remotely Operat- ed Vehicle) team qualified for the World Cham- pionships in Tennessee, where they will tackle world-wide problems such as plastics clogging our rivers and lakes and climate change raising ocean temperatures.
