688 Best of the Araujo Estate Eisele Vineyard Wines: 1996 Syrah and 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon The 1996 Syrah is a blend of 96% Syrah co-fermented with 4% Viognier and is one of the highest quality Syrahs to be found from California. It is rich, full-bodied and impecca- bly balanced, making it perfect for drinking with spiced ham. Wine Spectator - 93 points The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon is medium to full-bodied with admirable purity, a sweet, lush mid-palate and ripe tannin in the finish. The healthy ruby/purple color is followed by promising aromas of minerals, cedar, smoke, and black currants. The top-notch 1997 is a restrained classic. Robert Parker - 92 points Donors: Bruce and Jerrie Short Value: $476 689 Veuve Clicquot Brut - 3 bottles This fresh and balanced Champagne is lightly toasty, with snappy acidity and a lively, creamy mousse carrying flavors of white cherry, pickled ginger and Marcona almond. It manages to reconcile two opposing factors - strength and silkiness - and to hold them in perfect balance with aromatic intensity and a lot of freshness.
