Dear Friends, Jen Mentesana, President, PEF Board of Trustees Laura Hughes, Executive Director, PEF As we wind down the summer months and enter another school year, we cannot help but reflect on all we have accomplished together as a community. In recent years, we have not been without our share of challenges and obstacles as a coun- try, a district and a passionate group of community members. It is important to always remember that if we work together and collaborate, we can do amazing things. PEF's primary focus has always been, and will continue to be, ensuring that our students receive the best possible programs and education. We have sharpened our focus to take a closer look at how those programs are being run and made sure that your dollars are being spent in the most effective way possible. This continues to be the priority of PEF, and our mission is to ensure that your donations are being used effectively and have a direct impact on the success of all students. This past school year was the first time in 20+ years that PEF did not host our annual Main Event fundraiser (aside from May 2020). Regardless, we were still able to meet our pledge of $2.1 million to the district because of you! Main Event has not only been PEF's largest fundraiser for decades, but has been a beloved and historical gathering of community members, parents, administrators and teachers who come together for one evening in the spirit of education. That same spirit will continue to live on as we evolve Main Event into a new era. On September 30, we will host our 3rd annual Toast on The Coast: a food, wine and music festival in Mal- aga Cove with a recently announced Estate Wine Dinner, live auction and paddle raise. The Estate Wine Dinner will take place on the lawn adjacent to the Malaga Cove school site (the 1st school in Palos Verdes) - the same historical site where the original founders of Palos Verdes came to gather and purchase land 100 years ago. The future of our community and this generation is in your hands. Where we go from here is up to all of us. Let's continue the incredible legacy of excellence in education together by supporting our students with even better world-class pro- grams in education. Now more than ever before, we have a greater opportunity to become the best district in California. Please join us as we enter the 2023-2024 school year with renewed optimism, passion and generosity. With much appreciation,
