COLLEGE & CAREER CENTERS This vital resource at Peninsula and Palos Verdes High Schools provides students and parents information and guidance through the college application, admissions and career-making process. Our outstanding College & Career Center staff also arranges for admission representatives to visit our high schools from over 100 colleges and universities. STEM SMERT (Science, Math, Engineering, Robotics and Technology) at Peninsula High School and PVIT (Palos Verdes Institute of Technology) are two of the most highly regarded high school engineering programs in the nation, regularly producing competition teams that often place higher than university teams. These programs have launched many of our graduates into prestigious university engineering programs. COMPREHENSIVE COUNSELORS Counselors at the high school level help students and parents acquire necessary in- formation to set goals and make decisions, along with scheduling and academic planning. More counselors keep district ratios at 350 students per counselor instead of the state average of 1:900. Student support specialists work with students to lead healthy and balanced lives. Their goal is to educate students on making healthy choices, developing effective coping skills and implementing interventions when necessary. Our high schools are routinely recognized as exemplary schools at local, state and na- tional levels.
