649 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano 2012 This brunello is a dark and thickly extracted expression. It may take a little longer to open because those primary aromas are buried deep under all that bulk and power. It moves with slow-motion laziness, and the bouquet is in ab- solutely no rush to show what it has in store. At its leisure, it will deliver dried blackberry, cassis, bitter chocolate, spice, campfire ash and sticky tar. There is some tannic astringency that will integrate with time. Wine Spectator – 96 points Donors: Mark and Karen Vasey Value: $178 650 Heitz Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Well-integrated with lovely hints of ripe blueberries and raspberries, this wine follows through on the palate with an inner sweetness, almost like melted chocolate. This wine has a well-focused acidity on the finish. Wine Spectator – 92 points Donors: Mark and Karen Vasey Value: $59 651 Impressive Cabs! 2013 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon and 2012 Stag's Leap Cask 23 Cabernet 2013 Spottswoode Cabernet - With notes of blackberry, blueberry, graphite, violet, balsamic vinegar, minerality and clove, this wine is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot.
